（１）令和４年８月１日午前、中谷総理大臣補佐官は、サニーランズ・イニシアティブ・リトリートII参加者と朝食を挟みつつ、意見交換を行いました。

中谷総理大臣補佐官から、国際情勢が厳しさを増す中、人権・民主主義の分野で日米が協力していくことの重要性を指摘しつつ、サプライチェーンにおける人権尊重のためのガイドライン策定の状況について説明し、日本として目に見える形で人権政策を進めていきたい旨述べました。

参加者からは、インド太平洋地域において自由で民主的な秩序を維持するための日本の役割に対して高い期待が示されました。

（２）８月１日夜、中谷総理大臣補佐官は、サニーランズ・イニシアティブ・リトリートII（於：小田原）のレセプション及びラーム・エマニュエル駐日米国大使との夕食会に参加しました。中谷総理大臣補佐官は、参加者と国際人権問題やインド太平洋地域において人権と民主主義を促進していくための取組について率直な意見交換を行いました。

サニーランズ・イニシアティブは、民主主義を支援する有識者が集い、共通のビジョンを議論し、推進するための新たなプラットフォームとして全米民主主義基金及び米戦略国際問題研究所（ＣＳＩＳ）のイニシアティブにより２０２０年に発足した。第１回会合はカリフォルニア州サニーランズ・エステートにて２０２０年１月に開催され、今回、日本国際交流センターと全米民主主義基金が共催する形で第２回会合が日本で開催された。

(1) On the morning of August 1, 2022, Mr. NAKATANI Gen, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister, exchanged views with the participants of Sunnylands Initiative Retreat II over breakfast.

Special Advisor NAKATANI pointed out the importance of cooperation between Japan and the U.S. in the areas of human rights and democracy amidst the increasingly severe international situation.

Special Advisor NAKATANI also explained the current status of developing Guidelines for Respecting Human Rights in Supply Chains and expressed Japan's willingness to promote human rights policies in a tangible manner.

The participants expressed high expectations for Japan's role in maintaining a free and democratic order in the Indo-Pacific region.

(2) On the evening of August 1, Special Advisor NAKATANI participated in the Sunnylands Initiative Retreat II (in Odawara) reception and dinner and dialogue with US Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel.

Special Advisor NAKATANI engaged in a frank exchange of views with the participants on international human rights issues and efforts to promote human rights and democracy in the Indo-Pacific region.
