令和４年２月１８日、午前８時から約３０分間、中谷元内閣総理大臣補佐官は、ホセ・フェルナンデス米国務次官（経済成長・エネルギー・環境担当）との間で、国際人権問題に関してオンラインで意見交換を行いました。

中谷補佐官から、２月１５日の「ビジネスと人権」局長級関係府省庁会議において業種横断的な人権デュ―・ディリジェンスのガイドライン策定開始に合意し、経済産業省を中心に作業が進められ、今夏までの完成を目指す旨述べました。これに対して、フェルナンデス国務次官からは、日本の取組の進展を歓迎する旨が述べられました。

両者は、今後の日米間の人権分野における協力を深化させるべく、緊密に連携していくことで一致しました。

On February 18, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. for about 30 minutes, Mr. Nakatani Gen, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister, held an online discussion on international human rights issues with Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment, H.E.Mr. Jose W. Fernandez.

Special Advisor Nakatani stated that at the Director-General-level meeting on "Business and Human Rights" held on February 15, it was agreed to start developing a guideline for cross-industry human rights due diligence. Mr. Nakatani stated that work is now underway, mainly led by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, with the aim of completing the guideline by this summer. In response, Mr. Fernandes welcomed the progress of Japan's efforts.

Both sides shared the intention to work closely together to deepen the cooperation in the field of human rights between Japan and the United States.
